Dunmaglass has been a place of peace and adventure for our family for a very long time now - but the history of this estate stretches back much further.
The farmhouse itself was built between 1894 and 1899, and acted as a dower house for nearly a century. As far back as the sixteenth century, Dunmaglass has played an important part in Highland history. It acted as the seat of the mighty Clan MacGillivray for centuries. The Clan played a colourful role in Highland life, including as avowed Jacobites during the Battle of Culloden.
AN EYE TO THE FUTURE
Today, Dunmaglass is a modern, progressively managed Highland estate. We are proud to have planted over 300,000 new trees at Dunmaglass, and we are committed to doing more to protect and enhance biodiversity across this special place. We have also made a significant investment in renewable energy, and are proud to host wind and hydro facilities on the estate.
The farmhouse has been carefully restored as a truly family endeavour to breathe new life and purpose into a much cherished building. The space has been conceived by a family member – a professional interior designer – while another member of our family hand-painted many of the custom wall finishes you will find here. As you settle in to the house, you'll find many of its original in-tact, from stained glass to fireplaces.
We invite you to come and experience the joy of this corner of the world for yourself.
